What is Advanced Flow in Android?

We have some news for you, cozy Android gamers and tech-savvy gamers!

Google is actively rolling out a brand new feature for Google-certified Android 7.0+ devices called Advanced Flow, which blocks your device from installing apps from unverified developers.

Unfortunately, this makes installing our games very difficult on modern Android devices, especially for our target audience: young kids, parents, and cozy gamers wanting a super cute experience.

On modern Android, if your device is Google-certified (comes with Play Store), you will not be able to install our games until you enable Developer Options. However, given the number of our audience having Parental Controls enabled, makes this impossible.

However, on the bright side, our games run down to Android 5.1, and Android 6.0 and earlier cannot run Google Play Store anymore and do not have this block, meaning hand-me-down devices running these versions will have no problem.

What to do when I see this message

If the app cannot be installed, here's what you can do:

1. Enable the 24-hour block using Developer Options

Go to your settings > System > About > Tap the build number 7 times. You will be asked for a PIN if you have one.

If you have Parental Controls or Family Link enabled, this will not work

When it says "You are now a developer!", go back to the main settings screen, and tap Developer Options.

In Developer Options, tap Apps from unverified developers.

Flip that switch on the screen, and restart your device.

2. Play on a vintage 2015-2017 device

If you have an old device sitting around, go to its settings > System > About to reveal the Android version.

If you see Android 5.1 or 6.0, you're in the green: you can play the games.

Tip: if that device is an Android 5.1 or 6.0 device, you can make that your Kitty Kitty Studios handheld game console!

3. Play the game in the browser (if applicable)

If the game you're trying to play has a browser version, tap the big blue "Play in Browser" link. This runs directly in your browser, bypassing the Advanced Flow blocks.

Our games run flawlessly on all modern browsers, but they only work online, so prepare to deal with Progressive Web Apps (PWA's).

4. Wait for the next outcome

Honestly? That's reasonable to wait. Possible outcomes are:

Until Google removes or softens this block (possible given what happened with Epic Games and third party appstores), why not just find an old device and revive it with some cute games?
